Angry Little Girls

So I had a bizarre experience at the Goodwill today. I was in the shoes and bags area and I found the most hilarious little canvas tote. It is by "Angry Little Girls," which is a comic written by Lela Lee. You can read about it here, but basically, they are little drawings of girls who utter sarcastic, pithy commentary on topics that many women talk/complain/commiserate about on a daily basis.

The canvas bag that I found features two little girls on a teeter-totter. The little blond girl is at the bottom of the teeter-totter and the other little girl says, "Damn! What d'you eat?" It struck me as hilarious because it so obviously plays off women's insecurities, but does it in a really tongue-in-cheek way.

The tote was priced at $4.79. It actually had TWO Goodwill price stickers on it, both for $4.79. When I took it up to the register, the cashier told me that was a mistake and it should have been $4.99. I just gave him this look like, "Are you serious?" By California law, he has to sell it for the price marked on the bag (retail pricing is regulated through the Department of Weights and Measures). But I was just so stunned that he was informing me it was really supposed to be 20 cents more than the marked price that I just sort of mumbled, "Ohhhhkay." The guy behind me in line, though, seemed to get more angry about it than I was. He told the cashier, "There are two pricetags for $4.79 on that bag; why are you charging more?" The cashier said it was a mistake and that all items are supposed to be priced ending in 99 cents.

This was so not worth arguing about; I mean, we're talking about a secondhand bag that was less than $5. But I seriously couldn't stop laughing -- 20 cents! I was just floored! But, in the end, I have a hilarious new tote to ironically carry my lunch in. So I win.
